Something Good, Something Purple, Something OPEN!

The long wait is oven! Oh wait, did I just say “oven”?  YES!!! I just did! Do you remember the time I wrote about going to Purple Oven (A Very Purple Oven)? Well since then, I have been able to sample some of their sweet creations via gifts, friends, etc. Also, since then I have been dreaming of a branch closer to home. I live near Tomas Morato (a street-full of restaurants, bistros, cafes, and the like) so I really wished they would have a store since our area was a gastronomical one.

guarantee!

Finally my wish came true! You may now visit their new cozy but spacious branch at F7 Rallos Building. I really liked the place where they are in because they have more sitting area, both indoor and outdoor. They also serve coffee! They still serve their scrumptious cakes, delectable munchies (such as crinckles, brownies, etc.), and their delicious breads and pastries. They still have a schedule as to what is baked and sold at a specific time; so make sure you note your favorite pastry schedule down. J

CAKESSSSS

During my trip to their new place, I bought their chocolate lava (bought in 6’s) to be brought and eaten at home. So when I got home, my family and I sampled the chocolate lava and boy was it good! (NOTE: When buying and eating to-go chocolate lava, make sure to heat it in an oven toaster to have the full lava effect) My family and I did not heat it, so our chocolate lava was a bit cold. BUT, it was still yummy. The center was like a chocolate pudding and it went well with the rest of the dessert. This dessert also goes well with ice cream especially when the chocolate lava is heated.

A Very Purple Oven

Sounds intriguing right? A purple oven?

Tucked in the quiet San Antonio Plaza Arcade at Mckinley Road, Taguig is a cute cozy bakeshop called Purple Oven. They bake and sell scrumptious pastries and cakes. Their products are guaranteed fresh since they sell goodies fresh from the oven. They even have a schedule on what pastry will be out – this means that not all their pastries are available all the time so make sure you catch their schedule. Purple oven sells a variety of cakes from classic sans rival to chocolate dome cake to lemon torte to cheesecakes!! You name it! They also have a bunch of savory pastries such as quiche tinapa and ham and cheese croissants.

I recently visited Purple Oven in San Antonio; I forgot to mention they have four more branches in Luzon. When I went to Purple Oven I just had lunch with a friend so we decided to buy something sweet. Upon entering, the store felt so homey yet sophisticated. There were arrays of cakes in one side of the store and another array of pastries on the opposite side. I gravitated towards the cakes, but I saw that cake orders are not per slice rather as a whole. So, I choose to buy their Fudge Brownie and my friend bought their Chocolate Crinkles. The brownie was moist and it had walnuts inside. I loved it because it was not too sweet. It had the right bitterness and sweetness to it. It also had a crunchy and chewy balance. My friend too was pleased with the crinkles. I brought home the rest of the brownie (because each purchase is a pack of 16 slices) and my parents and brother loved it. Looks like I’ll be back soon J.

Slice of Life

Hello! Hello! Happy July everyone! I am now part of the labor force. J So, I might have lesser time to blog, but be rest assured that I am still exploring different places and tasting different food to share to you all. J

To start of July, here are some sweet treats to munch on. If you have been following my blogs you would get a hint that I love sweets. Just recently my mom brought home cakes by Heny Sison from Victorino’s. Side info: Victorino’s is a restaurant located at 11th Jamboree St. corner Scout Rallos. It is a restaurant devoted to Ilocano (member of a people inhabiting northwestern Luzon in the Philippines) dishes. Also found there are pastries and cakes from Heny Sison.

So who is Heny Sison you may ask….only one of the best pastry chef and cake designer in the Philippines!!! J So tasting cakes from Heny Sison was such a joy and a treat. My mother brought home five cake slices namely, strawberry shortcake, red velvet cake, apple pie, blueberry cheesecake, and carrot cake. May I just gush that ALL the slices were scrumptious. I loved the strawberry shortcake and the red velvet. I enjoyed the shortcake because of the real strawberry fillings between the yummy chiffon and topped with whip cream (I think that they made their own whip cream because of the light consistency that married well to the whole cake. I also loved the red velvet slice because of the yummy cream filling. It was like eating a very good red velvet cupcake. The apple pie, carrot cake, and blueberry cheesecake were also good! I liked them because they were made with the real deal balanced with the right amount of sweetness. Tasting slices of Heny Sison cakes were so good!  Will definitely try more.

Cup + Cake = Love

Well hello again everyone! This post is a Back Blog (meaning it’s a backlog blog that should have been posted earlier) J. I decided to continue to post this because I believe that this deserves to be shared J.

Well last month (February), I decided to bake cupcakes for my birthday, since I love love love cupcakes. I also wanted to use a gift before it expires. My cousins from Canada gave me a Duncan Hines Chocolate Fudge mix. Because I did not have the proper pans to make a cake, I went on in making my birthday cupcakes. The instructions were easy breezy… and in no time I was done mixing the batter. I popped it in the oven for a couple of minutes and Voila! CUPCAKES! I did add my own twist to the batter. I added dark chocolate nuggets from Goya, for added Choco lateness, and sprinkles, to make them colorful. This was my first time to make cupcakes and they turned out pretty good. Next time, I will bake cupcakes from scratch! J

In line with my cupcake baking experience, I also would like to share about one of my newest favorite cupcake bakery, Vanilla. Yes, Vanilla is its name and cupcakes are their game! First of all, I fell in love with their store display because it looked pretty and dainty. It was cozy and inviting. It’s as if you were off to a tea party.  Second, I fell in love with their take home containers that were shaped like tea pot (so kawaii!). And last but definitely not the least is their cupcakes!! Vanilla’s cupcakes are so beautiful and scrumptious. I forgot the names of the cupcakes, but I did enjoy the chocolate cupcakes and the cupcake that was strawberry with Oreo bits on top. They have a variety of cupcakes that would surely tickle anyone’s taste buds.

love!

Sunday Afternoon

Sunday Afternoon
Before I go on blogging about sweet things I discovered last Sunday, let me introduce to you an artist I currently am liking… Alarice! Alarice is an Australian based singer with a cool soothing voice. I got this blog’s title from one of her songs that I really enjoy. Here is a link to watch and listen to Alarice’s Sunday Afternoon.  You can also watch her live here in the Philippines on February 17, 2012 at the UP Sunken Garden. J

Last Sunday afternoon, I was able to celebrate my birthday with my family at the Powerplant Mall in Rockwell. There we had awesome Asian lunch at Banana Leaf. We had curry, roti, chicken pandan, and many more. J I enjoyed lunch but this blog entry is not about that, though maybe some other time I could talk about Banana Leaf J. This entry is about my sweet Sunday afternoon.  Last Sunday there were different food stalls at the ground floor all displaying different sweet treats for Valentine’s Day. I saw a lot of homemade chocolate desserts, from lollipops to bite-size chocolates to cupcakes to cakes!) I also saw a lot of heart shaped cookies; some were sold with a teddy bear holding the cookie. There were also unique Valentine gift ideas like pastillias rose (pastilias is made out of milk and sugar, which hardens) and bread dips and spreads. But the one food stall that I loved that day was the food stall by Cinq.

Cinq is a dessert boutique. They don’t really have a shop but they do have contact information in case you are interested (check out their website: http://cinq.com.ph/).  That Sunday I fell in love with Cinq’s Lexi and Aurore. Lexi is Cinq’s version of a cheesecake. It has a cheesecake bottom and a fruit puree on top (they have different types of fruit purees). The fruit purees are made from fresh fruits and this makes this dessert refreshingly tangy. I like how the cheesecake compliments the delicate sweetness of the fruit. Cinq’s Aurore, for me, is heavenly!! It’s not a cake or a tart; it’s like both in one good chocolate marriage. J It’s hard to give a description since it does not really fit a certain category, well not that I know of a category that it would belong to. You just have to taste it to understand my wild descriptions J. Although I did not buy their pecan tart, I did have a taste of it and was it also good!

Here are some photos of their delectable desserts: (photos are from Timmy Potenciano’s entry in appetite.ph)

Don’t they look yummy! So be in the lookout for their food stalls to have a taste of delicious.

A Cupcakeful of Joy

A Cupcakeful of Joy

Hello everyone! I’m sorry for the delay… I just finished weeks of exam and projects in school [my explanation for the delay J]. The past weeks were stressful but people and different things around me helped me finish all those requirements. One of the things that helped lift my spirit up is a boxful of Cupcakes by Sonja (off course I shared it with my family J).

I love love love cupcakes especially cupcakes from Cupcakes by Sonja. Their cupcakes (the bread part) have nice moisture. It’s not really wet and not really dry—in other words just right J. When you bite into it, it crumbles perfectly into your mouth. They have various types of batter for the cupcake. They have chocolate, vanilla, Traditional Southern Red Velvet, carrot, lemon, peanut butter, and many more! They are ALL GOOD! J And if the cupcake doesn’t convince you yet… let me describe to you their divine frostings. Their frostings are light and silky to the mouth. It does not have a buttery taste but rather a smooth taste depending on the flavor of frosting. The frostings give the cupcake more life and “personality”  J. Each type of frosting has the right sweetness.  Together, the cupcake and the frosting, it makes a cupcakeful of joy. J Maybe it sounds silly but seriously a bite of cupcakes from Cupcakes by Sonja makes me smile J. Yep! It’s that good.  But if your still not convinced… I hope you would be thru these pictures J
open a boxful of joy :)

yum!

            Happy Chinese New Year!!!

Yes! I may be late in greeting you… but anyway… here’s how I celebrated the Chinese New Year…

I was able to eat traditional tikoy cooked with egg courtesy of my classmates ^_^. My mom and I also ate tikoy that had a modern twist from Eng Bee Tin Chinese Deli. We also ate different types of sweet hopia like buko pandan and ube macapuno, also from Eng Bee Tin. Eng Bee Tin is one of my favorite Chinese Deli places because they have the original types of Chinese delicacies and innovated delicacies. All of this food tasting happened before and after the Chinese New Year but during the day itself I did not eat tikoy or any traditional Chinese New Year food instead I ate a chocolate cake. Yup you read that rightJ!

Hopia with a twist

Not your regular Hopia :)

During the week of the Chinese New Year my mom bought a really cute and delicious chocolate cake from Icings. It was decorated with white rabbits, since it is the year of the rabbit, and a banner-like sign that says Kung Hei Fat Choi. All of this cake décor were made of white chocolate. The goodness of the cake does not end with its exterior but also the interior. The cake was moist and really chocolate-y. The inside of the cake had chocolate chiffon bread while the filling was chocolate mousse. It was so good… off course it is good since it has been made by Icings. I love icing because their cakes look good and tastes even better. They have cakes for everyone [children, couples, singles] and for any occasions [birthdays, weddings, etc.]. They are located at Dr. Lazcano St, Quezon city, SM Supercenter in Pasig, and Market! Market!

cute and yummy

Check out the cute rabbits ^__^

That’s all for now… be sure to taste their cakes! Kung Hei Fat Choi!
